2 Corinthians 9:12: “This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of God’s people, but it is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God.”
Mission: Provide outreach reflecting the Love of Christ through service to our community.
In ministering to these needs, we partner and interface with other churches and community groups who are also intent on serving the needs of our community.
The Community Concerns Committee provides monthly opportunities for our church family, friends, and our sister congregation, the HKBP Indonesian Lutheran Church family to give of our time, talents, and gifts to support the needs of our local and global community.
We provide to our local community by:
-
collecting school supplies and backpacks to donate to students at the elementary and middle school in the Claremont Unified School District;
-
collecting non-perishable food weekly for the Inland Valley Hope Partners, along with a monthly collection of loose change which we call the “noisy offering”;
-
supporting and participating in the Annual Walk for Hunger and Homeless;
-
collecting items for our Easter gift bags (socks, chapstick, lotion, and Kleenex) for both long-term and short-term residents of the Claremont Care Center; and,
-
collecting paperback books to donate to the Claremont Prison Library Project.
We provide to our greater, extended community by:
-
we collect new, soft fleece blankets for the Open Door Family Assistance program in San Bernardino;
-
we collect foods and prepare meals for the San Bernardino Community Wellness Campus;
-
we support the Chaplain Services at the Loma Linda Veterans Medical Center donating blankets for their outreach in celebration of Thanksgiving;
-
we provide Christmas gifts for two families sponsored by the Inland Valley Hope Partners Adopt-a-Family for Christmas;
-
we collect items to provide gift bags to both the women’s and men’s prisons for incarcerated persons
We provide to our global community by:
-
providing opportunities to donate to several international non-profit
organizations, such as Providence Children’s Home in Kenya, Lake Tanganyika Lutheran Diocese in Tanzania, and ELCA gifts to support people in rural villages where families need water, food, and other necessary services to maintain a sustainable life.
