Advent 2025 Adult Education

A Clear View of the Birth of Jesus: A Middle Eastern Understanding -based upon work of Dr. Kenneth E. Bailey
Four sessions beginning December 14 CHANGED TO DECEMBER 7
Presenter/facilitator: Pastor Steve Bieghler
In this course we engage the traditional Christmas stories from a Middle Eastern perspective (from the context of first century Israel/Palestine). The late Dr. Ken
Bailey (a Presbyterian Pastor/Professor) brings over 40 years of living, studying, and teaching in the Middle East from Cairo to Lebanon to Jerusalem. I think you will find his insights not only fascinating, but also deeply enriching, and I hope they will sharpen your understanding of what happened when Jesus was born and what it means for the world and for your faith.
December 7 - Session 1: The Story of Jesus’ Birth: Luke 2:1-20
December 21 - Session 2: The Genealogy and Joseph the Just: Matthew 1:1-21
December 28 (tentative) - Session 3: The Savior, the Wise men and the Vision of
Isaiah: Matthew 2:1-12 and Isaiah 60:1-7
January 4 (tentative) Session 4: Herod’s Atrocities, Simeon and Anna: Matthew
2:13-18 and Luke 2:22-36
